Korea's leading high-end lifestyle magazine< Monthly Luxury> An interview with **Director Kim Seong-ho of Minish Dental Hospital** was published. Director Kim is dedicated to conservative treatment aimed at saving teeth without extraction at Isalineun Dental Clinic, and to Minish treatment at Minish Dental Hospital.

This interview covered the importance of 'dental aging' improvement and 'occlusion elevation' treatment through the restoration of tooth wear and oral structure, going beyond simple cosmetic dental treatment. The following is an interview supplementing content that could not be fully included in the print edition.

###
Q1\. Is it possible to measure “dental age” in the same way as skin or uterine age? What are the unique features and goals of Minish’s dental age analysis screening?

**A. Just like the skin** , teeth also undergo the aging process as we get older. Depending on how well they’re cared for—or if you have certain oral habits—there’s often a discrepancy between your “dental age” and your actual biological age. Some people in their 30s have oral health comparable to that of someone in their 70s, while conversely, some people in their 70s have teeth as well-maintained as those of someone in their 30s.

We are currently developing a system to analyze and quantify “dental age” so that patients can intuitively understand that teeth also age and become more mindful of their oral care. Most people have 28 teeth, but how many of them actually know the condition of each one in their daily lives?

By providing the “age” of each individual tooth, our goal is to help patients understand the condition of their teeth more accurately and support them in keeping their natural teeth for a lifetime.

## Q2\. How can Minish correct gaps between teeth or crooked alignment—issues that are too costly to treat with traditional orthodontics but are bothersome if left untreated?

**A.** In my practice, I often see patients in their 40s and 50s who simply put up with their misaligned or gapped teeth because orthodontic treatment wasn’t as common when they were young as it is today. They often say, “What’s the point at my age?” but many of them have struggled with crooked or gapped teeth their entire lives.

When I treat these patients with Minish and resolve their concerns, they are often even more pleased than younger patients. The treatment method varies depending on the condition; for example, for gaps between teeth, we harmonize the size and proportions of the teeth and close the gaps with Minish.

In cases of misalignment, we apply a thicker layer of Minish to teeth that are recessed inward, while for teeth that protrude outward, we slightly reduce the tooth structure and apply a thinner layer of Minish to make the teeth appear straight. In addition, many patients who have experienced relapse after orthodontic treatment come to us because Minish can correct the issue in just one day—without the need for re-treatment.

## Q3\. When someone wants to address the insecurity that their smile isn’t pretty, what steps does Minish take to design their smile?

**A.** Everyone knows how important **a smile** is. Some people look pretty when they’re not smiling, but their smile can actually make them look less attractive. As a dentist, while I treat teeth, I look at and analyze the entire face.

We conduct a step-by-step analysis covering a wide range—from the face, lower face, lips, and gums to the teeth—down to the finest details surrounding the teeth, and recommend a smile design tailored to each individual.

From the smile muscles to the specific shade of the teeth—I believe my job is to break down the vague insecurities patients express into detailed components and create the smile design that best suits each individual.

## Q4\. What are the signs of lower facial aging that occur as teeth become shorter after age 40, and what are the expected benefits of “occlusal elevation” treatment?

**A.** When **the face** ages, the most significant changes occur in the lower third of the face. While gravity causes the skin to sag, the lower third also becomes shorter as the teeth—which act as pillars supporting this area—wear down.

This results in a face that resembles what is commonly referred to as a “sunken face.” Occlusal elevation restores the length of the lower face, improving the proportions between the upper, middle, and lower facial regions. It also plumps up sunken lips and smooths out fine lines, resulting in a visibly younger appearance—which is why it’s one of the treatments that yields extremely high patient satisfaction. Restoring worn-down tooth surfaces to restore dental health is an added benefit.

If tooth wear continues, the nerve can become exposed and the tooth may need to be extracted even without cavities or gum disease, so this treatment is also effective for preventing such issues.

## Q5\. What changes are occurring and what benefits are expected from the adoption of AI technology in dental care?

**A.** Unlike other **fields** in the medical industry, where AI is being actively adopted, the development of AI in dentistry has been relatively slow. However, as technology advances rapidly, I believe that from a dentist’s perspective, it will become possible to reduce mistakes and errors—from diagnosis through treatment—and consistently provide accurate care. From the patient’s perspective, a future is coming where we can place even greater trust in our healthcare providers.
