Creator Chae Rim Lee is interviewed by Minish Newsroom at a cafe in Yongin, South Korea.

Being able to express yourself, connect with people, and make money. If there’s one job that everyone from young students to working professionals dreams of these days, it’s being a creator, and that’s why Chae Rim (real name Kim Chae Rim), who has tens of thousands of followers, is an inspiration to many.

With 580,000 followers on TikTok, 150,000 subscribers on YouTube, and 60,000 followers on Instagram, we asked her about the joys and sorrows of being a creator. And the money part, which everyone wants to know.

– What inspired you to name your channel “Like Chae Rim”?
“I think 90% of creators name their channels without giving it much thought, and I have a mantra of ‘treat your life like a journey, and your journey like a life,’ which is why the phrase ‘Life is like Chae Rim!’ has become a toast among my friends, so it was natural to name my channel ‘Like Chae Rim.

How did you become a TikTok and YouTube creator?
“I didn’t always want to be a creator, I just started after school because I saw my friend’s TikTok followers skyrocket and I was intrigued. I got into TikTok in the early days and got 4,000 followers in a week, and within a year I had half a million followers.

I decided to pursue creativity as a full-time career, and thanks to a good agency in the early days of TikTok, I met some great creator colleagues and had a lot of positive influences, which is why I’m still doing so well today.”

Like Cheryl, who says it’s important to take care of your mind.

– I think it’ s important to have a good relationship with your label.
“I think there’s actually only about 5% of all labels that do things responsibly, and it’s only when the relationship between creators and labels is not commercial or mechanical, but is driven by the quality of the content and passion for the channel, that it can grow.

My current agency helps me a lot with motivation, mental management, and content planning.”

Can I get help with content planning?
“I publish over 100 pieces of content a year, some of my friends produce 3 a day, and it’s inevitable that you’ll run out of people and content. It’s mentally destabilizing and you lose yourself between what you want and what people want.

Then the agency is the center of gravity, and they help us find solutions in terms of creative, and most importantly, they help us match advertisers, and they cut the ads that don’t fit the unit price, and they cut the ads that are mutually beneficial.”

– “I wouldn’t say it’ s not, but at the end of the day, running a channel is like running my own business. I have to shoot, edit, promote, and monitor everything. I spend at least two hours and sometimes as much as 10 hours on a single video, and when you add in the time I spend planning, there’s really no time off.

I’ve tried to intentionally set aside time to take a break, but when you’re working on something like advertising, it’s not a steady stream, and the priority is always work, so the idea of taking a break goes out the window. Sometimes editing at home feels like a break.”

– If you work tirelessly, is your income enough to make you happy?
“I think it depends on the creator, but for me, I think I’d be happy if I made as much as someone my age in the workforce. It’s very stressful to think, ‘I made this much last month, why not this month,’ and you have to be able to manage that mentally so you don’t fall apart.”

Like Chae Rim, who has been volunteering for five years, said it’s all about “doing it for myself.

– I don’t think it’s going to be as easy to make as much as an office worker.
“Realistically, very few creators make more than $1.5 million per month consistently, and even if they do, it’s hard to keep it up for more than a year. If the audience doesn’t support you, you’re out of a job that day, so I try to be ‘consistent’.

I believe that the constant production and management of content is what ultimately determines a creator’s growth. You know how they say that putting in 10,000 hours at something makes you an expert? I spend hours every day focusing on publishing videos, just like a normal 9 to 6 job.

On days I’m not publishing, I try to increase the amount of time I spend connecting with the outside world and planning content. As a Type J, I usually have at least 10 checklists to keep me organized and on track.”

What are your goals for 2025?
“My goal is to reach 200,000 subscribers on YouTube. I’m at a plateau right now, but I want to keep growing, and I want to use my creativity to positively impact more people.”

I heard you’re active in Crayon, a creator volunteer community, despite your busy schedule.
“I’ve been volunteering for 5 years now. I started as an individual, but gradually learned how to organize and helped build organizations. I wanted to use my influence as a creator to spread ‘good’ quickly.

When creators do a service and regram it, they get half a million to a million impressions a day, and I thought, if we can spread goodness quickly, we can change the world a little bit faster.”

– You’re using your creator influence for good.
“A lot of people think of service as something you do for others, but the more I do it, the more I realize it’s something you do for yourself, and it breaks my heart to think that someone goes through life not knowing the value of service.

That’s why I continue to volunteer at the dog shelter, because it’s something that anyone can do, and I want to help more people experience it.”

– Finally, what advice do you have for aspiring creators like Chae Rim?
“I’d say, ‘Give it a shot,’ because then you’ll know if you’re just doing it for attention or if it’s something you really want to do. If you’re making videos with your skills and you’re not getting attention and you’re having fun, then I think you should do it because it’s something you want to do.

If you want to use being a creator as a way to make more money, I’d suggest having a day job and using things like video production to promote that job – think of it as building your own little station.”

“You have to try it first to see if it’s something you really want to do or if it’s just for attention,” she said of aspiring creators.

(Mini-Interview) Chae Rim Like is a Minish client. After the interview, we asked her about Minish.

– What triggered the Minish treatment?
“I had braces for five years and I wasn’t happy. I couldn’t eat what I wanted to eat because of the braces, my face was disfigured, I had scars on my teeth because my braces didn’t match my teeth, and it was expensive. If I had known about Minish, I wouldn’t have struggled for so long.”

What changes have you noticed since having the procedure?
“I was very happy with the aesthetics of the Minish procedure, it was done in one day, and there was hardly any tooth removal, which was amazing. It’s been about two years since I had the procedure and I haven’t had any problems, especially since my teeth are straightened, I have a lot more to smile about.

I was born with stained teeth, but now that my teeth are brighter and straighter, I get a lot of compliments on my smile. I think my teeth are the center of my first impression when I meet people. If you work in the entertainment field, sales, or service, I think it’s a must-have procedure. It’s a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth the investment.”

A self-proclaimed Minish influencer?
“As someone who has experienced Minish firsthand, I can’t help but tell my fellow creatives about it. I went out to eat the day of my procedure and didn’t feel sore at all, and I had no problems being out and about. I want people to know how great Minish is, both aesthetically and functionally.”
