The “unsung hero” behind the successful completion of the 19th course
On the 19th, a special ceremony was held on the third day of the 19th Minish Course at the Shinheung Education Center. An appointment ceremony was held to name 16 clinic directors as faculty members (clinical instructors). The faculty system, which had previously been operated primarily by the directors of Minish Dental Hospital, was officially established and expanded for the first time with this ceremony.
The benefits of this expanded faculty were immediately evident during the hands-on training. With faculty members stationed throughout the training area, participants felt comfortable asking even minor questions without hesitation.
There were also changes to the hands-on practice sessions. Previously, the instructor would explain the procedure once, and then the students would perform it on their own; however, this time, the “step-by-step” method—previously used only in North American courses—was introduced. With the setup process divided into five steps under the guidance of faculty directors, it became possible to provide even more meticulous, hands-on instruction.
Dr. Hye-shin Park, Director of Suyeong Haim Dental Clinic in Busan, said, “The first case you handle on your own after returning to your clinic is the most important. Even if it takes a little longer at first, if you remember what you have learned, you will be able to achieve results that will still look good even 10 years later.”
Dr. Young-hwan Lee, Director of Isallineun Dental Clinic’s Sinsa Station branch, said, “I tried to explain, from a fellow dentist’s perspective, the practical challenges that providers may frequently encounter, such as how to handle remake cases. I hope the participants gained practical know-how from this training that they can apply immediately in their clinical practice.”
Although this course was designed for dentists practicing in Korea, the participation of Korean dentists practicing in New York and Washington also drew attention. Dr. Dustin Shin of Shine Dental in New York said, “Over my 25 years of clinical practice, I have always felt that too much tooth structure is removed during veneer treatment. MINISH, which requires minimal tooth reduction, is an essential technique, and I am confident that it can be an especially effective treatment option for patients with tooth wear.”
The 19th course, the final session of the year for dentists practicing in Korea, produced 32 new graduates, bringing the total number of graduates to 477.
Dr. Hae-sung Kwak, Director of MINISH Dental Hospital, said, “Recently, I have noticed that the clinical experience and expertise of dentists participating in the course continue to rise with each session. This indicates that veneer treatment is becoming increasingly widespread in local dental clinics. To meet these growing expectations, we will continue to deepen the content of our lectures with each course.”
