Analyze and quantify your oral age

Checkup → Spa: Maximize preventive effects

Minish Dental Hospital has launched a new preventive program called “Premium Oral Health Checkup.” Previously, patients underwent the “Minish Spa” treatment without fully understanding their oral health status, making it difficult for them to fully appreciate the need for oral care. With the introduction of this diagnostic program, it is expected that patients will become more aware of their oral health and gain a stronger sense of motivation.
Lee Byung-jin, director of the Preventive Care Clinic, said, “If a patient starts with a spa treatment right away, they’re bound to wonder, ‘Why do I have to do this?’” He added, “Once they’ve undergone a diagnosis and confirmed for themselves what issues they have, their attitude toward treatment changes dramatically.”
The diagnosis is conducted systematically, much like a health screening at a general hospital. It ranges from dental, periodontal, and radiographic examinations to bacterial and pH analyses using saliva samples. Based on these results, the risk of dental caries and periodontal disease, as well as the patient’s current “oral health age,” are calculated using specific numerical values. Operating dental checkups as a standalone program, similar to a general health screening, is a system that is virtually unique in Korea—one that even university hospitals find difficult to replicate.
The Premium Oral Health Checkup is offered as a bundled package with Minish Spa. The process involves undergoing the examination during the first visit, receiving the results during the second visit, and then proceeding to the spa. Subsequently, the Minish Spa package includes one checkup per year, allowing customers to regularly monitor their oral health and continue their care.
It’s not just the diagnostic system that sets this clinic apart. The way results are communicated is also unique. Instead of simply handing patients a report after the test, the director personally conducts a one-on-one presentation using each patient’s individual metrics and risk analysis data.
Patient response has been positive. Dr. Lee said, “Since they’ve never experienced anything like this before, everyone is left with a strong impression, wondering, ‘Oh, what is this?’” He added, “Many patients say they didn’t truly understand the condition of their mouth until after receiving the screening.” With satisfaction levels so high, the number of patients recommending the service to family and friends is also on the rise. Dr. Lee explains that seeing their risk level quantified helps patients truly realize the need for proper oral care.
The area where Dr. Lee focuses most of his efforts is coaching patients to develop self-care habits. “No matter how good the method I teach you is, it’s useless if you don’t want to do it yourself,” he said. “I’m spending more and more time discussing why oral care is important rather than just explaining how to brush your teeth.”
Minish Dental Hospital describes the goal of preventive dentistry as “making sure nothing goes wrong.” Dr. Lee said, “I feel the greatest sense of fulfillment when a patient who has consistently received the Minish Spa treatment tells me, ‘I’ve been doing very well and haven’t experienced any discomfort at all.’ Instead of flashy appearances, the value our preventive care department pursues is to provide quiet peace of mind.” Once the treatment is complete, he reportedly tells patients, “We’ve restored your mouth to its cleanest state since birth, so every three months, feel like you’re being reborn and enjoy the most delicious foods with the cleanest mouth possible.”
Minish Dental Hospital plans to expand its customized programs tailored to different life stages—including bad breath management, care for children and adolescents, and services for engaged couples and pregnant women—and to broaden its scope to include microbiome (oral microbiota) management. Dr. Lee said, “While treatment brings about visible changes, prevention safeguards a peaceful daily life where nothing goes wrong,” adding, “I want to convey that value to more people.”
